Stroke Prevention Clinics

Secondary stroke prevention clinics services patients within the community who are at high-risk for stroke, have had a transient ischemic attack (TIA) and/or a stroke. These clinics offer stroke patients and their families/caregivers early assessment, risk factor management, and follow-up to help prevent another stroke or TIA.

People who have had a stroke or a TIA are at high risk of recurrent strokes and other vascular events. A TIA is an important warning sign that a person is at increased risk of a full-blown stroke. Timely, identification of risk factors and appropriate treatment is important to prevent additional strokes and disability.

Key components of secondary stroke prevention include: assessment and initiation of appropriate interventions such as medications and surgical interventions, and modification of risk stroke risk factors.
